Micro-Vu was founded
in 1959 in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. The goal
was to provide precision optical comparators at an affordable price.
Small machine shops needed to improve the quality of their parts.
Most measurement and inspection systems on the market were too expensive
for the average small shop.
Micro-Vu's first product was a portable optical
comparator. Micro-Vu designed a special lens system that offered
bright images at a low cost. The comparator was an instant success.
Over the years, Micro-Vu expanded its product line
to fill the needs of customers developing larger and more accurate
measuring machines. In the 1970's Micro-Vu offered a full line of
optical comparators with advanced features like thru-the-lens surface
illumination and integrated digital readouts (DROs)
In 1980, Micro-Vu introduced the first metrology
computer designed specifically for optical comparators. The Q16
and it's predecessor the MD-1, brought functionality to optical
comparators that previously had been available only on coordinate
measuring machines.
The 1980's saw many other innovations such as video
comparators, edge detectors, video inspections systems and the latest
technology - machine vision systems.
In 1988, Micro-Vu moved to a Windsor, California,
in the heart of Northern California's wine country. The 40,000 square
foot facility contains sophisticated design and manufacturing operations.

In 1992, Micro-Vu introduced InSpec
Metrology Software. This easy-to-use program provided measuring
systems with more power than ever before. ASME Y14.5 geometric tolerancing
and program storage were just the start of the large feature set.
In 1994, Micro-Vu introduced the Qubix Vision.
High accuracy, low cost, and ease of use made this system extremely
popular. Other characteristics made the Qubix the most celebrated
machine in its class.
As the worldwide push for quality grows, customers
continue to demand faster, more accurate, and more capable systems.
In 1996, Micro-Vu introduced its fastest, most accurate system.
The Quantum measuring system is
capable of 28 inches per second with accuracy better than
a micron. The Quantum features air bearings, granite ways and linear
servo motors, and has raised the standard of measuring systems.
Micro-Vu continues to provide more measuring
solutions. Micro-Vu has developed a line of probe ready vision
measuring machines as well as Window
2000 software to take measurement into the next century.
